While the Executive Branch is busy sabotaging their own deal so we can have a government shutdown, I wanted to demonstrate in my own way. Right now, most of our national parks are still open. This put’s the lives of countless visitors at risk. In most cases, they won’t be able to count on the National Park Service to be there if something goes wrong. The dedicated and selfless NPS Rangers won’t be able to do what they want to do and are highly trained to do, and that is to ensure your safety. No fault of their own. The National Park Service doesn’t decide which parks remain open during an unusual partial government shutdown, the Secretary of the Interior does. Secretary Zinke has chosen to use the shutdown to highlight NPS funding short comings; I’m using the shutdown to walk miles in support of NPS. Raising money to assist the national parks during these tumultuous times is the only thing that makes sense.
